Types of braces we offer
Tindall Orthodontics offers various types of braces to patients of all ages in Manhattan, Junction City, Wamego, Fort Riley and the surrounding areas.
Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Wearing elastics (or rubber bands) improves the fit of your upper and lower teeth. Wear rubber bands as instructed, and remember that the rubber bands work far more efficiently if they’re worn as prescribed.
Self-ligating braces
Greater comfort, fewer office visits, and better results make self-ligating braces a great choice for orthodontic patients wanting straight teeth in a short amount of time.
Self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics, meaning fewer appointments and less pressure placed on the teeth. Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. Clear braces
Clear braces are made of translucent, ceramic materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, clear braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.
While clear braces are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as they are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, clear braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Lingual braces
Your smile is uniquely your own, so when you receive orthodontic care, you deserve a treatment that is as unique as you are! Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth and are therefore “invisible” when you smile. Lingual braces are 100% customized to match the shape of your teeth; the metal appliances are created uniquely for you.

SureSmile® braces
If you’re not feeling sure about your smile, consider a SureSmile orthodontic treatment! SureSmile uses sophisticated 3D technology to create custom wires, making your treatment more efficient than other braces treatments.
With SureSmile you will receive a “braces experience” with shorter treatment times, fewer office visits, and less discomfort.
Invisalign® clear aligners
Invisalign® and Invisalign® Teen use a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces.
Not only Invisalign® clear aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in orthodontic treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
